Sweet Escape

by Ashley Ann   Jun 19, 2007

Down in the heart of all the evil
I found myself being the new member.
What did I do, where did I go wrong?
I tried hard to remember.

Maybe I should have gone to church.
Maybe I shouldn't have cussed so much
Or was it that I didn't pray?
Maybe I should have had a lighter touch.

But God fogives all that you do wrong!
So why was I not forgiven too?
What is the secret to it all?
Somebody give me a clue!

An old man walked up to me.
He said, "I know what you did wrong."
Then he walked away,
Humming a sad song.

I ran after him impatiently.
"Tell me, tell me what it is!
I must know the true secret!
Do I have to take a quiz?"

"Let me ask you two questions." he said.
"Have you ever 'asked'to be forgiven?"
"Have you ever been saved?"
"Wow", I said, "No, I had forgotten!"

So in the firey pits of evil,
I prayed a little prayer.
I asked for forgiveness and to be saved,
Which, down here, is a sight that is rare.

Then in the darkness, appeared a light.
And in the light appeared a shape.
God fought the devil and took me home.
I survived a sweet escape.
