A Funeral

by Hannah   Jun 20, 2007

Once our love, with wings like those of cooing doves
Took flight and flew within the starry heavens far above
Where, as angels we soared, sharing dreams and the world
When suddenly his love for me turned bitter-sour and curdled
For fickle fate had turned upon us and taken up his bow
And with one painful, well-aimed shot, let throw
A poisoned arrow to pierce my lover’s heart
And in that single fluid motion tore my world apart
I fell from love, to hit a now hardened, hateful ground
Another wingless victim of sweet love turned around
And as I wept with wrenching sobs I heard a soft requiem
For the funeral of my love, and my broken shattered dreams
