The Pain of Separation

by Sweet Fragility   Jun 23, 2007

Alone in her room, tears streaming down her face,
Longing for the presence of the person she could not replace.
A pariah of the world, ever since he chose to depart
He is the sole reason for the pain in her bleeding heart.

Sitting alone in her room, gazing blindly at old photographs,
The imagery of them in her mind, the final time she had laughed.
Her mind flashes back to their last date a few weeks before,
When he had told her, "I don't feel the same way anymore."

She was able to summon up the strength to ask why,
That after two years he could bear to say goodbye.
He did not answer but left without a word
Leaving her oblivious to what had just occurred.

The acidity of her aching heart, the non-stopping pain,
At the way he looked down on her with disdain.
She went into the bathroom, sitting on the porcelain floor,
Right after taking a razor blade from the cabinet drawer.

Feelings of fearing death were indistinct in her mind,
She wished to be able to put everything behind.
She wiped the tears from her face and rolled up both sleeves,
Wondering would he still care enough to grieve.

She dragged the blade vertically across her pale skin,
Wondering when the sweetness of death would begin.
She watched as the blood welled up in a red jagged gash,
And repeated until her arms were completely slashed.

Porcelain floor, stained by the proof of her distress,
With her last thought she believed she was blessed.
This final act she committed in her desperation,
So she would no longer have to live in the pain of separation.

Now, I normally despise self harm poems, they`re all so cliched..but this one, having such an amazing story behind it, really kept my attention. Your vocab is great, imagery is amazing, and talent is very impressive.

This poem is great, in a way some people could argue and say it`s bad because it gives people the idea of an easy way out if someone leaves them, which is true...but yet at the same time, it is what a lot of people do..they don`t need a poem to tell them what to do; you just took that and made it into a piece of amazing literature..kudos.

For the first time of reading your work, I am really caught off guard; I`m going to keep my eye on your work and I will keep posting comments and seeing you improve..I really like your work so far.

Yeah, I love dark poetry! This one is really good, it could be a little deeper, but good, anyway.
Emotions are well expressed, fourth stanza is my favorite.
    Keep up! 5/5
