Lesson of Life

by Brittney Follett   Jun 24, 2007

Father where have you gone?
Mom won't talk to me no more...
I went looking for you today
My feet are still so sore.

I went to OUR park with one swing.
Down to OUR spot near the trees.
I walked around in circles...
Asking "God help me please."

Today was my school play.
I was the girl they called Mac.
While I was standing there
I saw you standing in the back.

Once the curtains closed.
I ran in search for you.
You were already gone.
But you again forgot me too.

Head still held high we went home.
That day I told her I saw you
Tears came into her eyes.
"Daddy said he is through."

You came home from work
She said you and her got in a fight.
Names were thrown at each other.
And you left me that cold night.

I still love you father.
And I know you still love me.
Please father come back.
Why can't you just see?

Mommy says she is sorry
Mom is still in love with you.
She wishes every day
That she didn't yell at you...

Mom is out grocery shopping
It's been weeks since the play.
I tried on all your clothes.
I'm all alone at home today.

Your clothes smell like you.
They make me miss you more.
In tears I lay in your coat
My heart is still so sore.

Then I heard footsteps behind
I turned around and saw
Tall, dark, and handsome
A strange beard on your jaw.

I jumped up and flew to you.
Your eyes looked at me in pain.
Your warm arms surrounded me.
You whispered "I love you Jane."

Mommy came home still sad.
She hasn't smiled in weeks.
As she sees you she stares.
Then tears came down her cheeks

She let out a sob and fell to her knees.
You rushed to her and held her tight
Our family is whole again now
You said you are sorry for that night.

This is an important Lesson of Life.
All will learn and you should remember:
Bad times come and good times go.
But no matter what: A family is forever.

This a beautiful and very touching piece of poetry. I really liked the happy ending, too bad everything can't end that way. I feel... sord of inspired after reading, I just loved the message. Great read! 5/5

I am very happy that you have written this piece. The thing that I really wanna appreciate is that the use of descriptive grammar as evident in the second line, that is the use of double negation. Very nice and sad poem. 5.5
