A birthday with a twist

by my name is Llama   Jun 25, 2007

It was her birthday she had waited for it for so long
In her pretty pink dress nothing could go wrong
Her birthday candles where ready to be blown out
It was going to be the best day without a doubt

Her friends came knocking at the door
With presents, sweets and plenty more
Kisses and hugs and smiles galore
Nothing had happened like this before

But this pretty story did have a twist
A sad ending that can't be dismissed
This little party that she had all planned
Was something you and I could not understand

This party was all up in her head
Her birthday cake just a piece of stale bread
Her pretty pink dress where just rags on her back
Her beautiful house just a small little shack

She lived in India with her mum and her dad
Three sisters and a little brother I might add
She was seven yet cooked and cleaned
And never once intervened

Her mummy and daddy where sick they had HIV
Soon they would be going they would be free
She would have to help out a whole lot more
Nothing would go back to the way they were before

She still has one thing which she held on to tight
Her imagination and dreams they made everything alright
Even though things would get hard she still could pretend
That one day she'd get her wish it would all depend

So as she woke up that morning for the hard day ahead
There were no tears but a smile instead
She really was lucky she thought after all
She had her siblings and her ability to recall

All those good times waiting up in her head
For her to think of just before she went to bed
She felt sorry for all those that didn't even have that
And that's what she vowed she would work at

Improving the lives of everyone who had nothing at all
Even if it was just doing something small
She would grow up and make her parents glad
That they had a little girl that just wasn't too bad

Wow this one so very beautiful and sad.
So tragic that she knows her parents are going to die, but what i liked the most in this one is that you described you should never stop giving up the dreams that you have and believe in.
