Only With Each Other.

by Not Bulletproof   Jun 29, 2007

They fought so hard to keep it together.
struggling so hard to make it last forever.
But no matter how many steps forward,
there were always more going backward.

Fight after fight they tore each other apart,
taking shots at one another's hurt heart;
pulling and pushing; yelling and crying,
and slowly inside, they both were dying.

Not sure why they felt the need to fight,
they kept it up because it just seemed right.
Until one day when they argued for long,
one realized that the fighting was wrong.

This one packed their bags and they went,
leaving behind a relationship, twisted and bent.
Who wouldn't agree that this was how it should be?
Love shouldn't be just fights, but lived happily.

So now they're apart and haven't talked for days,
the two on their own, finding whole new ways.
With new people to meet and new things to do,
they lived happily ever after, well, they wanted to.

If only sooner they had tried hard to fix things,
their hearts wouldn't be lonely; wouldn't sting.
even though they fought, they still really cared,
and without one another, they were simply bare.

Another great write. I haven't read your poems in so long...I missed them :-( I can definitley relate to this, my most recent relationship ended on a sour note such as this, but it was for the best. Sometimes the best thing to do is the last thing you want. I hope all is well with you...Take care.
