Liberty Bell

by Michael D Nalley   Jun 30, 2007

When the liberty bell was cast
This symbol was meant to last
Yet, minus love to sing the freedom song
A bell can become just a noisy gong

A union formed under the divine
Became the standard to define
The republic for which it stands
The symbol of these united lands

God favored our beginnings as we begun
To mint our mottoes "out of many one"
Shouting, all for one and one for all
United we stand divided we fall

Liberty and justice for all is the law
But freedom did not begin without flaw
Though all men were equally created
Some would need to be emancipated

The state of the union like the stars above
Is in the diverse people of this land we love
In unison, may our patriots sing?
Forever to let freedom ring

I really enjoyed this read, once again the flow was flawless and the word choice as well. The 3rd stanza is my favourite as it really hits home, no matter what colour your skin is or where you born, we all have the chance to be something amazing. Great poem 5/5 GG23
