Ghost

by Afraid of the Dark   Jun 30, 2007

His eyes look through her,
She knows not why,
To the questions she asks,
He does no longer reply.

When they walk down the street,
They are not hand in hand,
He moves from their house,
It is not how they planned.

When he cooks to dine,
He cooks only for one,
When he goes to the fair,
He no longer has fun.

Tears stream from his eyes,
Like river banks broken,
He cries himself to sleep,
His bitter cries unspoken.

What caused him such sorrow,
What caused him such pain,
She followed him daily,
Waiting for him to explain.

One day he left in a differing direction,
To his usual way,
It lead him to the graveyard dull,
Where the saddened came to pray.

He knelt by a brand new stone,
With words graved on in black,
"Here lies Racheal Jessica Smith,
Remembered by this plaque."

She gasped aloud on seeing her name,
On that granite stone,
She sank down to her ghostly knees,
She had never felt more alone.

Those questions left,
As he did not hear,
He could not see her,
Even if she stood so near.

The food made for one,
As she couldn't eat,
No fun in the fair,
As he had no one to meet.

She hated his sorrow,
She hated his grief,
She wanted a way,
To give him relief,

She took a deep breath,
And somehow she knew,
She whispered to him,
Remember I love you.
