Butterfly With Midnight Wings

by dollwithafrown   Jun 30, 2007

A butterfly with midnight wings;
It only comes out when darkness sings.

A small innocent frame; fragile and alone,
Despite the fact that it's completely full-grown.
The other butterflies leave her, they go out to play,
Yet all the time, she chooses night over day.

Not a care in the world, she'll flutter with the stars.
The midnight-blue sky hides all the painful scars.
The rest don't understand, she doubts they ever will,
But that's okay, adding to the nightly thrill.

She flies out alone, when the arrow points north,
Getting herself ready, preparing to go forth.
It may be a tad dangerous, she takes that chance,
She's free like a wild bird, getting ready to dance.

A butterfly with midnight wings;
It only comes out when darkness sings.

    I just love your nature poems! They have so much imagery in them, each one does. Mind you, I love all of your poems. I thought it was a really good touch how you repeated the two lines at the beginning and at the end, it adds to the overall effect of the poem. Another great read.

    I always enjoy coming to the nature section of this site. The poems here seem to be above the rest in most cases. I read your poem and found it quite interesting. Nice words and good flow kept my attention. I look forward to reading more of your works to see what appears when they are turned over.
