Beneath the Castle

by Briana   Jul 1, 2007

Bones of yesterday,
Buried in the sand.
You bring along your shovel,
But I refuse your hand.
I'd rather keep them buried,
And build a castle.
Sure, a crumbling castle,
But a castle nonetheless.
---
The castle stands in glory,
And glimmers in each speck.
You claim it a mirage,
But the foundation's set.
I'd rather cover bones,
Keep the castle.
Sure, a destructive castle,
But a castle nonetheless.
---
One day we'll all collapse,
And so will all our art.
In our tracks we'll stop,
Before we even start.
I'd rather pile sand,
Into a dream.
Sure, a trivial dream,
But a dream nonetheless.
---
With each second, water
Rises to the surface.
As if reminders lingers,
Behind what you'd suggest.
I'd rather ignore the deep,
With a shallow creation.
Sure, a temporary creation,
But a creation nonetheless.
---
The bones shall reveal;
The water will not hide.
The castle can't protect,
What buries deep inside.
