Bellerophon and Chimera

by Vesper   Jul 2, 2007

A vicious beast
With breath of fire
It liked to feast
It fought with incredible ire...

It tore the flesh
And ate the heart
Still beating and fresh
Slowly...part by part...

Fearsome creature
Scourge of the lands
And it's every feature
Made you ran - head in hands...

But a Hero was born
Bellerophon - his name
Filled with scorn
And searching for fame...

Pegasus he tamed
And flew into battle
The monster he maimed
And it gave out a rattle...

He slashed and stroke
Until no movement was felt
His spear he broke
The final strike was dealt...

Returning home
He was betrayed
Abandoned and alone
Hope would slowly fade...

Chimera he slew
And now he was gone
In the sky he flew
Forever alone...

I really enjoyed reading this because it was full of wonderful things. You rhymed in the right spots to give the poem something to grasp onto, and you also made the beat of the poem consistant. My favorite part was:

    Pegasus he tamed
    And flew into battle
    The monster he maimed
And it gave out a rattle...

I liked this part because it showed all the qualities I mentioned at the beginning. I liked your choise of words such as maimed and ire. I think I will have to check out what those two words mean! Great job and keep that pen moving!
