Smile

by lonelynow   Jul 2, 2007

Vulnerable body, naked and shaking
Weak from refusing weaknesses
Ribs like fingers clutching at what's left
Hips bruised, stripped of protection
Her thighs do not remember each other's touch
Her tongue, redundant, licks at her lips
Searching for forgotten tastes
But her lips have grown too skilled at saying "no"
Her hands too accustomed to waving away health
Her mind too good at creating lies
She shivers at the sight in the mirror
Naked body, bones painfully large
Hollows where flesh used to be
She stares into the face of death
And she smiles
