You are, who you choose to be.

The teacher stares in bewilderment,
as I lower my head down,
the rest of the class is laughing,
but I cease to make a sound.
They ask questions in disbelief,
so as to act somewhat concerned,
"Don't worry about me", I like to say,
"I just come here to learn."
From class to class, I walk alone,
& it's as if no one sees,
the loneliness I feel inside,
has gotten the better of me.
Everyday repeats itself,
like a movie on a screen,
I'm just an actor on the set,
& here comes the "breakdown" scene.
I fell down from my mountaintop,
slid right down on my face,
now I'm forced to continue alone,
at this slow & steady pace.
It wasn't supposed to end like this,
my "fairy tale" has yet to come,
everyone else is finishing the game,
but I am far from done.
The sound of applause is heard,
as I see the curtains close,
I feel my heart drop to my stomach-
I'd been kicked out of the show.
The teachers stop asking their questions,
I guess they've given up on me,
I didn't realize until now that..
you are, who you choose to be.
