Ignorance and pie

by Independence Forever   Jul 3, 2007

The crowd gathers, cheers pierce the air
men, women, and children, not one a care

years before an army marched across this city street
but now the lane is host to a far different life beat

where once a war torn army dug in for a final assault
independence celebrations deliver a different result

true war was this street's purpose then
citizens don't even remember when

the brave men set in their hearts as vague and gray
caring only for their celebrations on independence day

"bayonets forward!" went the resounding cry
now you only hear the call for more filling pie

brave men, i salute you for your hard work, with no pay
for you gave me the luxury of this independence day

Again, great poem. this one had just more to it.

i liked how you talked about people's ignorance. many people slowly start to forget the soul purpose of many holidays, and sadly this is one of them.

    5/5.
