I LOVE MY ROSE!

by Christina Yap   Jul 3, 2007

Love found me
But I didn't know it was true

I thought it was an imitation
Like a handmade rose from China
But it took me 12 months to realize

I was wrong

Love told me it loved me
I lied and said
"I love you too"

At the time
I thought
That's what I was suppose to do

But love caught up with my lies

For I didn't know how to love
I didn't know one could think of it so highly

Well
Love did

Love loved love
Love loved me

I couldn't hurt love any longer
So when love asked me if I loved it
I said I didn't know

I truly didn't know

I didn't know what to say
What to do
Nor what was going to happen

I didn't know

Love took my reply as no
And began to slowly die

Love was dying from a plague
A plague of hurt and pain
A plague that I have caused
A plague
It said
Only I can cure

Love was slowly dying
But it never gave up on me

It continued to love me
Continued to have faith in me
Though I rarely gave it the attention it wanted

Love loved me
And after 12 months of being in and out of the life of love
I realized all that I did

I realized the pain that I caused
The sacrifices love made for me
And that

Love LOVES me
And it wasn't an imitation
It was a true rose

A rose that grew from a seed
A seed planted by God
For me

A rose I was meant to care for
A rose I can call my own

I have already watered it
With sad rainy days

It's now time for me to feed it
With rays of happiness
And I will

For I

Yes I

I love my rose!

    Christina,

You portrayed your feelings beautifully. It was lovely, and captured my heart the moment I read the poem. The idea of a rose loving the subject actually rings a bell. It reminded me of the book, "The Little Prince". =) That book was real nice, you know. Have you gotten your inspiration with that book?

Anyway, thank you for sharing such a thoughtful poem. A joy to read!

    Take care,
    Marian
