The Girl

by gabriel   Jul 4, 2007

Sad old eyes all dreary dry
Losing those years she'd cry
With each faded passing day
The pain that last was here to stay

Missing him with every hour
The taste he left half-bitter, half-sour
Like a fragment of shattered glass
Cutting deeply into her past

She prays for him every night
Upon her knees her daily rite
With hands clasped she offers her soul
To keep him safe from the bitter cold

Her existence he has never known
Explains why she's all alone
Walking on that path of fear
Loving a man who's never near

Once or twice she'd pass him by
He never saw her in his eyes
Always smiling to his perfection
Yet failing to catch his attention

One day out on the streets
The common folk she'd greet
At the corner around the bend
She saw her one and only man

He was in exquisite fare
Nicely-pressed suit and gelled up hair
In his hands a beautiful rose
Glimmering with pink of baby's toes

She held her breath when he turned
Their eyes met, her love re-burn
He winked and showed his pearly whites
Her heart froze upon that sight

It was like a dream come true
Her prince charming had somehow knew
Shaking herself and pinching her arm
She then put on her sweetest charm

He walked to her with graceful strides
Her trembling ones she couldn't hide
Suddenly he dodged and went past her
Puzzled she spun and met her fear

Into his arms nestled another girl
Exchanging kisses they flirted and twirled
On their fingers she then noted
Two diamond rings platinum coated

Our poor lass slumped against a chair
Teardrops rolled down her cheeks fair
Like a nightmare that came true
Her feelings are what I feel for you
