Her First Day of School
Written from Mommy for My Little Brandi Jean
Her life started out so simple
So innocent and filled with fairytale dreams
She has no idea what awaits her
How do I prepare her for a life that can be mean?
She lives in a Barbie doll world
With the events and the outcome as she chooses
She is filled with happiness and make believe
Unknowing of this world full of hate and crudeness
Her blue eyes so sweet and innocent
At what age can she fix her own mistakes?
When do I let my little girl grow up?
How do I let her walk alone in a world full of hate?
I vow each day to protect her
I will stand strongly by her side
How do I face the first day of school
And put her on the bus for her first ride
Will she find her classroom?
Is she ready for the big day?
Or will she sit on the bus in tears
Needing Mommy to help her find her way
Big steps for her are waiting
Is she ready to take them all alone?
Did I raise her properly?
During her first five years at home
Have I built up her confidence?
Or did I shelter her too much
Did I somehow make enough time for her?
When I was always in a rush
This is a major stepping stone
I just pray that she is ready
I hope the values I instilled in her
Leave her strong and standing steady
Good luck to you my princess
For it is time for you to fly
Don't look back as the bus pulls away
For you will see teardrops fill my eyes
Of course I will follow you to school
To make sure you find your way
And to wish that you are doing well
And flying high on your special day
But if you face a struggle
I will be there to catch you when you fall
How could I be anywhere else?
For I am your Mommy after all
