I struggle to make it in this world
and try to leave my past behind
even though the roads are rough
happiness I hope to someday find.

Though the bridges I crossed
they will never get burned
but the respect I have
it had to be earned.

Nothing came easy in life
worked hard for it everyday
I fought to keep everything
but they took it away.

Don't ask anyone for nothing
that I can't get on my own
not much time left here
I'll enjoy it before I'm gone.

Did what I had to
so things would be right
took a lot of hard punches
all my life I had to fight.

So I put down my fist
and picked up a pen
my new life starts here
