Jack of All Trades

by Rachel RTVW   Jul 6, 2007

Took a vacation from my job to spend some time at home,
All my stuff is out of place, can't find my brush or comb
The kids all start stalking me as soon as I'm awake
They continue this till bedtime, I never get a break!
They love to argue, fight and whine most of every day
After aggravating me half to death, we're glad you're home they say!!

They think that I'm a taxi and that I own a money tree
A royal maid within their eyes, that is plain to see
A butler and a secretary and of course I am their nurse
They tell me where we're going and grab my keys and purse!

When their runnings finished and I think that I am done
Thank God they're all asleep now, I think I'll have some fun!
But then the baby starts to cry and I must go see what's wrong
Now I am the singer and rock her back to sleep with song

I finally get some time for me and escape to P & Q
I look at my clock and off to bed, the night is halfway through
I wake each morning with angel kisses from two precious girls
Brush their teeth, get them dressed and brush their massive curls
So then I am the beautician, and off to the kitchen as the chef
I yell it's time for breakfast and I think my kids are deaf!

They all come down to eat their food and leave a mess for me
Jack of all trades they've taught me well because I work for free!

Parenting is best investment. A cumbersome call of duty; with promising pay, at long run. Child raising is not for cowards.

A very nice piece. I liked it a lot. I loved the way you spoke about your/your character's average day. I like the title too, works well. Great story, I can feel the tiredness oozing from it. Great job indeed.

Ahh, such an adorabe poem. Really makes me appreciate my mum for all she does for me and my sister! (Including the part about the curls, haha) The part where you mentioned P&Q made me laugh, because I've never heard it mentioned in an actual poem. Love love love it. I'm showing this to my mum!
