Darkness

by Brittany   Jul 6, 2007

Darkness took me by the hand,
Appearing just as I had prayed.
It kissed my eyes, held me close,
And told me not to be afraid.

Protecting me from all my fears,
The shadows danced upon the wall.
They sang a broken lullaby,
And one by one began to fall.

My dreams were dropping like the rain,
Dripping from forgotten stars.
For each I shed a million tears,
Each tear to match the fading scars.

And though I tried to catch the dreams,
And hold them in my bleeding hand,
They melted fast upon my touch,
And slipped away like grains of sand.

Then Darkness smiled down on me,
And told me it was time to rest.
My head was growing heavier,
I knew that it was for the best.

The shadows whispered at my ear,
I'd never heard a sweeter voice.
And though I didn't want to sleep,
It seemed that I had little choice.

But one more thought had crossed my mind,
Before sleep took me far away.
I prayed this time the pills would work,
So I wouldn't wake to see the day.

Very well written. I knew what you were talking about the whole way through. You use your words very beautifully. You made something dark and horrible sound picturesque and beautiful. Never thought of my times in that state of mind had such an element of unnatural beauty to them. Take care hun. Kia xoxo
