Just a little longer

by Mr O   Jul 7, 2007

Standing here in the park
Waiting for you as it gets dark
I realize you probably will not show
Just a little longer then I'll go

Practicing what I will say
If you should make it here today
All the words I wish that you could hear
But that your already gone is what I fear

I've had all day to reminisce
About the things I'm going to miss
Now that you've decided you should leave
It feels like death and I will grieve

I recall when love was new
the poetry I wrote for you
How I won your heart with verse and rhyme
But that was another place and time

You said that we have grown apart
And think you need a brand new start
That this is what is best for you and I
Please turn away if I should cry

For if your love for me has past
Then I know the die is cast
No pretty words wrapped in prose of poetry
Could ever make you stay with me

Now I've been here all through the night
And very soon it will be light
Never saying all the things that you should know
Just a little longer then I'll go
