My Father's Name

by sadeyes   Jul 8, 2007

He didn't give me much when I was growing up
He didn't have the money for fancy things
And new clothes were just a dream
Days would go by that he wouldn't eat
So his children had food you see
He paid the bills and keep us feed
Always amazed we made the month
And nothing had got shut off
But we never saw this man fall
He held his head up so high
Making sure we never cried
So many things he couldn't give
But his last name was the same as ours
And he said that he could give us with pride
He said we never had much
But the one thing we had
Was passed down through the ages
And that was my father's last name

Very well done, I love the topic of the poem, It just made me to think how much we have to be thankfull for, expecially the little things we do not wish to see everyday. 5/5.
