Young Love Lost

by Olivia   Jul 9, 2007

You were innocent
You were adorable
And I was in love

On that winters day
You smiled at me
And asked if my glasses
Fogged up, too

I nodded with a grin
I was warm and safe inside that house
Where we all had been

We dribbled an old ball
In the driveway
You werent so tall
So that was okay

You won every game
But you were never too cocky
You didnt want me to feel ashamed

Then summer of oh four
I went away for a while
And when you came knocking on that door
You gave me a strange smile

In place of your old glasses
Were brand new contacts
And a brand new face

Your hair had grown darker
And the usual curls were gone
You were about four inches taller
How long was I gone for?

You did not come alone
There was Bobby and Mark
And a few others in tow

You wore stylish clothes
And girls noticed
I should have been happy, I suppose
But now there was no time for just us

Some time passed and you changed
With it
I almost felt deranged

Next thing I knew
You and a girl were holding hands
And exchanging kisses
What was happening here?

You were supposed to be mine
Werent you?
I refused to wine

I stayed quiet
Just watched you walk away
With not more than a shrug
My feelings were in disarray

A year or so later
You got high
And a little bit drunk

You went to parties
And I didnt even get to see you shrug
You were out of my life
But you were smug

When I passed you
By the water fountain
You said, how are you

Even smiled and looked into my eyes
I couldnt help but giggle
You were so you
But then you were so gone again

You were innocent
You were adorable
And I was in love

Now you are a memory
If I think really hard
I can almost see that house
And that yard

I can almost see the water fights
And the residue of a game of Capture the Flag
Just a glimpse of those summer nights
