My heart bleeds for the moment
when I finally break the surface of the water
and I take my first real breath of air.
It'll happen, when the shadows of the deep
seep through the murky weightlessness.
I've seen the way the sun looks from the bottom.
Through the darkness, there is a certain slant of light
that makes me want to touch it and feel its warmth.
Yet the waves keep crashing down.
They send it away, all too quickly to be caught.
