Morning Walk I & II

by BEHROZE K PATEL   Jul 12, 2007

It was drizzling mildly today morning
Making me wonder if I should make the effort
To go out for my morning walk

Any way there I was 15 minutes later smiling
As I watched children splashing dirty water
on unsuspecting people as they passed by
A wet bench greeted me as I reached my favorite spot in the park.
Memories of companionship and elders well prepared with newspapers
crowded my eyes

As I sat down on that bench for a much needed breather
I wondered what it was about these rains that made everything
So fresh, beautiful and yet so sad

My mobile buzzed and my day began
Melancholy quietly slipped away
As the hustle and bustle of life crept in

II

Among the chaos of a very busy day
I happened to glance out my office window
Only to find darkened skies and swaying trees

Rains followed and along with it came melancholy
Lighting struck and thunder rolled
I smiled and wished my self back at the park

That evening when I returned to the park
It mattered not that it was raining heavily
All that seemed to matter was the dulling of the pain inside

Drenched to the bone, shivering with cold
And Numb with remembered pain
My feet carried me to my oblivion

Don’t remember much of the journey back home
Just the dull back sky, well lighted but wet streets
And an occasional car now and then passing me by

Next morning as I tied my shoe laces
A hand stretched out and clasped mine in his
My hubby of six years
Still loves to come with me on my morning walk
