The Death of a Dragon Slayer

by King of Pain   Jul 13, 2007

I do not understand what it was that I did wrong. Was the passion all used up? Were we just in love too long?

I loved you so completely; I never looked for someone new. I didnâ??t long for anyone; I felt secure in you.

I had it all planned out, weâ??d retire at 62. Weâ??d travel to countries you dreamed ofâ?¦ The ones I havenâ??t yet taken you to.

I gave you all I had to satisfy each and every desire. But it never made you happy; you just set the bar up higher.

Now stress was replaced by sorrow then came despair and finally doom. The bed was replaced by a cot then the ground and now a tomb.

Like a helpless puppy cowering in the corner that just got beat; Iâ??m crying and Iâ??m shaking and Iâ??ve peeâ??d all over my feet.

Iâ??m screaming, â??I am so sorry!â?? but honestly donâ??t know what for. I â??m sorry I loved you too much, and Iâ??ll never love no more.

Iâ??m sorry Iâ??ll go on loving you till my dying day. Iâ??m sorry I loved you so much and let you hurt me this way.

So I guess itâ??s all decided now, you picked the fate for us all. A family that once ran so damn strong, now wonâ??t even limp or crawl.

And what about the guy who promised, â??till death do us part"; Whereâ??s his happy ending? Whatâ??ll become of his busted heart?

It stopped beating just for you, then stopped beating for all of life. Like a well preserved mammoth itâ??s now encased in a block of ice.

I hope you find the new love that youâ??ve wanted all along. Cause your heroâ??s done killing dragons. Your heroâ??s dead and gone.

I too am sorry for your loss. Writing does help many through this stage, so I hope you'll continue to post. This poem was beautifully written and chalk full of emotion.
Well done ... and take care!

PS - Being new to the site, you might not know that when you copy poems in, to edit and delete the apostrophe's and re-type before posting. Then you won't get all the symbols.
