Moonlight on the water

by xxSilentlyScreamingxx   Jul 13, 2007

Moonlight ripples on the surface
Of the mirrored water.
Ghostly reflections captured,
Ghastly images beheld in the depths.
Stark silhouettes of trees, vivid and strong
In the light of the moon.
Too quiet.
Nothing moves -
Not even a sigh of wind to rustle a single leaf,
Not even a single insect buzzing in the air.
Overpowering, raging silence
Bears down around the water.
The unspeakable evil of so long ago still lingers,
Leave it's mark on the landscape,
Keeps away all life.
Look into the water,
Let the story unfold before your eyes,
Mesmerised, hypnotised at your peril.
A splash.
Silence.
Another image captured by evil,
Another soul claimed by the water,
Another memory joining the void.
The moonlight ripples on the water again.

Quite a frightening image you depict there. I wonder perhaps what made that landscape become so haunted and that water so evil? I'd love to see a continuing poem about this. 5/5.
