If You Could...

If you could ...

Turn off the radio. Just switch the song.
The lyrics bid tears to come play along.
You sang to it's words, and I fell apart
That song I'd dedicated to you in my heart.

Please change the channel. I don't want to see
Movies playing out my old fantasy.
I want to watch anything but sweet romance
Since we will never even have a chance.

Don't say her name. Don't say your own.
Don't say them together when mine is alone.
I wish you the best, but I feel the worst.
I'm drowning in rain, but still have a thirst.

If you could do those things just like I said.
I could keep pretending I'm fine instead.
But the fact is I'm only starting to heal
The rest is too much and the truth too real.

"I'm drowning in rain, but still have a thirst"

Lovely imagery. Could feel the pain and heartache of your words. I take it the 'rain' is teardrops and the 'thirst' is unrequited love. If I'm wrong, don't tell me, as I love the way it reads with my interpretation. An absolutely wonderful write even with the depth of pain in which it was penned.
