Watching

by Painted By Colors llInLovell   Jul 15, 2007

I watched as she departed from the room,
thinking I would see her again.
Until I got the phonecall an hour later,
finding her in a wreck.

She was shattered, her tiny body,
Crumbled into bits.
They told me she died instantly,
But I never said goodbye.

I sat there, on the funeral day,
bawling my eyes out.
Maybe it was my fault, maybe I should've stopped her.
but there wasn't a thing I could do.

I layed my hand upon the casket,
and swore I'd meet her again.
I know that she heard me, because at that instant,
I felt a calming breeze.
Then I told her goodbye,
as I sat, watching,
Watching the pallbearers take her away.
