Back Again

by Midnight Sun   Jul 15, 2007

We've said goodbye before
But he wouldn't let go
He's sorry this time, truly
I never consider saying, "No".

And after a couple days
He's acting the same as always
Drinking too much, cursing
Beating my confidence away

So I leave once more
Giving my flesh time to mend
But before the last bruise is gone
He's there ... Back again

He haunts me when we're together
And stalks me when we're apart
With him my body's not whole
But without him I have a broken heart

Why am I so attached?
This man will be my end!
But no matter when I leave him
I'll only wind up back again

But I leave once more
Giving my flesh time to mend
And before the last bruise is gone
He's there ... Back again

Even though I've tricked myself
To think I can always go
Truly when he wants me
I have absolutely no control

Maybe that's why I forgive him
In fear for my earthly life
There's no way around my punishment
That truth cuts like a knife

But I leave once more
Giving my flesh time to mend
And before the last bruise is gone
He's there ... Back again

This poem is very dark and touching. You wrote it excellently, expressing emotions with great honesty.
The fourth stanza is my favorite.

WOW! Now this is great! Sad and depressing, but oh so true for too many people. I love the repetitive stanza. It was perfect. and this stanza

He haunts me when we're together
And stalks me when we're apart
With him my body's not whole
But without him I have a broken heart

    was awesome!
