Wither One Rose, But Don't Let England Forget

by Emma   Jul 16, 2007

Wither one rose, and up springs another.
Along comes Lancaster to stand in the shoes
Of the good House of York, its rose petals shrunken,
Its stem all unsteady as if it were drunken.
Oh, the good House of York, England has lost her!
And brutally slain is good Richard of Gloucester.

Wither one rose, but don't let England forget
History is written by the winners alone.
What Henry Tudor said was nothing more than
The whining of someone who took a better man's throne.
As good as Richard III we have not seen yet.
Wither one rose, but don't let England forget.

Thanks very much! I'm the same, I love history (well, mainly the stuff to do with the monarchy - I'm not keen on the stuff they actually made me study lol). Richard III is my favourite monarch (yes, I have a favourite monarch) so I really wanted to write something about him and the Wars of the Roses.

I really love this poem. but then again, i am a big history enthusiast. i really loved the "wither one rose, but don't let England forget" part. history incorporated in anything is really awesome.
