Little Pink Hearts

by Emma   Jul 16, 2007

You set pen to paper, not sure what to write,
And hark at the first thing you draw!
A little pink heart with a swirl in the middle
Doodled on impulse, despite the fact that before
You were only going to write.

Next comes the name right next to the heart
And preceding the heart goes the 'I'.
You start to decorate and, all of a sudden, the page
Is covered in art - God knows why
When all you wanted to do was write.

The first thing you doodle: a little pink heart.
What would the infamous Freud denote?
You can't help but wonder, as you recall
How you carefully drew it by rote,
If you only intended to write.

Could it be you're indeed as inclined to romance
As society would have you become?
All the little pink hearts in the world could not say
What is said by this little one.
