A Midsummer Night's Dream

by sibyllene   Jul 17, 2007

The air is warm - a lover's sigh -
the earth submits to regal sky
I walk my quiet path down by
the whispering trees and pavement dry.

A poem is living - sweet, serenely,
in this heady, nighttime scenery -
the stars shoot forth their arrows, keenly-
Gladly I would let them strike.

Joyfully I meet them there,
those eager hunters of the air-
mistaking me for higher fare,
they've smitten me with beauty.

Here, again, the stars befriend me,
if I pardon, they will mend me.
Clement will this twilight be,
the stars a calm though awesome sea.

I walk my humble path down by
the earthly trees and pavement dry,
forsaking now the blessed sky-
I love, and make content to sigh.

A lovely poem, well worded. The rhyme a little pushed at times but still a delight to read.

The title of this poem was perfect to set the mood...I have to say at first I thought it would be some cliche' teenage romance in shakespearian tongue...but the language was crystal clear, yet romantic and classic. I love how the poem itself is original, but the title is timeless and famous. This poem lived up to it's title, and I would think that very hard to do.
