Madame Boudreau

by Karl Wild GG23   Jul 17, 2007

An old woman in a warn out dusty dress,
Sits alone at the end of a crowded bar,
Her reason for waiting is anyone's guess,
Reeking of strong liquor and a cheap cigar.

All who pass critique, but still pay no mind,
Seen the same stale picture a thousand times,
Turn a blind eye thinking they know her kind,
Searching for handouts, a few nickels and dimes.

While waiting she reflects on her despicable past,
Truly scarred by the unforgiving loneliness of night,
Still incapable to fathom how quick forever passed,
Fights back the tears, holds a smile with all her might

Her outdated apparel mostly tattered and torn,
Have irreplaceable memories of a long lost dream,
What was once a beautiful rose, is merely thorn,
As time fades away, so to, does glory and gleam.

She'll be there every night, same time, same place,
With her pearls, fake smile's and overwhelming glow,
Not only searching for love, but a warming embrace,
This is the story of lonely widow, Madame Boudreau.

A beautifully written love poem, enjoyed the story a lot and the story behind the story as well. I find your ability of putting pen to paper quite captivating, and worth further notice as well. Such a gift is, in fact, a kind of a genius.

^ Aging physically and nonphysically is a nightmare. That's how cruel Time is. But then, again... didn't Time give us enough time? Hm. I like the seeming truth drawn out by the foregoing couplet, it's simply provocative. A joy to read, as always. all the best and take care. ~Marian
