To the Moon and Back [Glosa Verse]

by HOLLYWOODxBANGBANG   Jul 18, 2007

[Originally sung by Savage Garden]

She's taking her time making up the reasons,
To justify all the hurt inside,
Guess she knows from the smiles and the look in their eyes,
Everyone's got a theory about the bitter one.

She's got a one-way ticket out of the bright city lights,
Because she knows that death's a midnight runner,
And she taps her toes along the sailor's skyline,
As she brands the concrete with her name.
The deceptive smiles that are flashed at her kill,
As she stands alone; being accused of treason,
And they're whispering behind her back as she walks,
That she's not as golden as she leads on to be,
She may be beautiful; but she's out of touch, out of season -
She's taking her time making up the reasons.

Tied together with a masquerade and a broken heart,
She pretends to be the girl they all hoped she was,
But she's falling apart; holding out for a friendly hand,
There's no one there anymore; she lost them all.
And they say: "She's fine, look at that poise!"
Because no one was there to hold her when she cried,
So she sat on her own dreaming of a better place,
Waiting for someone to come along and take her away,
As she sits alone; her sapphire tears being dried -
To justify all the hurt inside.

And she pens out the journey; to make it back to you,
But she doesn't take the time to map out the stops,
And as the yellow lines dot out her winding path,
She hangs her hand out of the open window;
Holding a polaroid between her quivering fingers -
And as she lets it go to the wind; she slowly cries:
Knowing, somewhere she had lost her hold on you,
"Maybe if I held you a little tighter; you'd be here."
But she knows all of those whispers are just lies,
Guess she knows from the smiles and the look in their eyes.

Holding her hands up to the misleading stars in the sky,
She hangs her head as she screams: "Baby, how could you?
You know I'd go to the moon and back for one more shot,
At a taste of your kiss, a grasp of your hand; a beat of your heart."
But as she lays open armed in the grass; waiting for death,
She holds all of her secrets up to the shimmering sun.
"I'm going out of my mind just missing you Darling,"
And no one but the horizon knew what she felt in that moment,
When she lowered her head and solemnly started to hum:
"Everyone's got a theory about the bitter one."

Glosa-Verse: A Spanish form invented by court poets in the 14th and 15th centuries. An opening quatrain, called a 'cabeza' is chosen from another poet, or song. The glosa elaborates or 'glosses' on the quatrain with four ten line stanzas, their concluding lines taken consecutively from the quatrain and their sixth and ninth lines rhyming with the borrowed tenth.

Jenna! OhMiGoodness Lovee! This was amazing! I am utterly in shock at how well this was written. I've read another poem by the same style and I have to say that you did an amazing job at it. You tied the song into the poem perfectly and everything flowed great! I am still utterly amazed. This was the PERFECT poem for your Platinum debut.
