Root of Evil

by Michael D Nalley   Jul 19, 2007

Some seek the knowledge of evil's root
Still others say that the point is mute
Since Eve has eaten of the fruit
Convincing Adam to follow suit

The root of evil that runs so deep
Where dirty creatures seem to creep
Under the skies that have to weep
While wisdom slowly falls asleep

Now most men must sweat and toil
To cultivate the most fertile soil
Yet we are engaged in such turmoil
Fighting each other for land and oil

Roots thrive within the earth
Greedily for all they are worth
Goodness awaits a sacred rebirth
As the sad sorrow turns to mirth

Does evil make the good mad?
Is it the root that is evil or bad?
Or is it the demon that makes us so sad
Longing for the paradise that we once had

    Michael,
I'm truly amazed by this spectacular piece of poetry! The words, flow, everything. I cannot express in words how incredible this is! My favorite stanza was this one:

The root of evil that runs so deep
Where dirty creatures seem to creep
Under the skies that have to weep
    While wisdom slowly falls asleep

I dunno why, but it really stood out to me.
This was a true pleasure to read, so keep it up! 5/5

    With all due respect,
    Hatori
