Colors of a Memory

by Scott Nickel   Jul 19, 2007

I paint a picture with my thoughts
A burning image of endless loss
A shining moment of jubilant glory
Flowing colors thrown in a hurry

Yellow's joy of solitude
It's utter avarice for bliss
Sends it falling from the stars
Once the joy has gone amiss

Blue's calm content for the night
The impassive ecstasy instilled
It's yearning, lonely, and silent cry
Heavens top is forever filled

Green's sly yet jealous deny
It's contrast to despairing cries
Hopelessly masking its wondrous fault
Ambition's high and towering result

Red's the subjugating victor
For love and passion give way
To its contrasting violent purport
Of blood spilled every day

All living colors combined
The yellows and blues and greens
Become the victims of this crime
To times vicious murdering deeds

As years and years and years went by
I lost them in my head
Till one day I awoke to find
They all had been given for dead

So vaporous colors to my eyes
Lost without my submission
Do forfeit these hopeless cries
For I still hold no connection

I will never know again
The beauty my mind portrayed
Forgotten within my head
For time was never delayed
