Homeless

Whose gonna wipe your tears little boy,
walking down that lonely street.
No clothes on your back, no shoes on your feet.
Your broken heart held in your broken hands,
your dirty face trying hard to be a man.

But I expect you to wash my car,
no, I don't have any change.
Are you the one that stole my bag
when I tried to lend a hand?

Did your daddy beat you boy?
And your mommy too...
Did they send you here today,
just forget about school...
How many tears have you cried,
and how can I help you.
This is all I can give you baby,
what else must I do?

No, I don't need you to wash my car.
Yes, I have a little change.
If you're the one that stole my bag,
I hope you feel a little bad.
Do they take your money boy,
and drink it all away.
Do they also work the streets,
disgraced and ashamed...

Am I wrong?
Are they right?
I'll think about it when I'm warm tonight.
I'll think about you little boy,
what else should I do...

Wow - this was very deep and made me quite emotional. Very sad... and unfortunately very true. I was born in SA and lived there for awhile so I know what you're relating to. Its sad and desperate but we do so often look away and think thoughts that later we have a paradigm shift and feel guilty (and rightly so). Such a great poem.

It just makes me feel lost because how can we reach so many when there are so few willing to do anything.
