Moonlight on the water (follow-up)

by xxSilentlyScreamingxx   Jul 20, 2007

*this poem is an attempt at a follow-up to another of my poems of the same name, just for FallenAngel, who said he'd like to see a continuing one*

Moonlight ripples on the surface
Of the mirrored water,
So many years ago.
A peaceful scene,
A beautiful summer's night,
Calm and quiet.
Until they came,
To shatter the peace,
To break the serenity,
To leave their mark.
Blood pours,
Lives are shattered,
Death and destruction becomes this place.
The water darkens.
Broken souls remain behind
Long after they are gone,
A memory of what was,
A reflection of the past.
They are bound here, never to let go, to forget
The horrors of that time.
They haunt the water in their silence,
Playing out the past in the depths,
Seeking nothing but revenge.
No life remains here now,
They made sure of that.
The broken souls, so angry and afraid,
Destroy all who come here,
Drag them down to join the evil,
Force them to become a part of that memory.
They know no other way
To try and escape the pain.
Life is nothing but a distant thought,
A fading piece in the minds of those
Who died that day.
The moonlight ripples,
The world goes on,
The evil remains.
