The Friends That Never Were

The Friends That Never Were

They sit with you at the table,
They laugh at your funniest joke,
But then they just sit there,
Staring as you choke.

Then it all comes crashing down,
When you show weakness,
They go for the heart,
And you are left with meekness.

You don't go out of your way,
To show them your still here,
Instead of strength,
All they see is fear.

Then they act as nothing happened,
They joke and giggle along,
But you still sit there,
As if you don't belong.

And when your in a bathroom stall,
Your looking straight ahead,
You hear your friend say,
"She's better of dead."

As you think about the friends that never were,
Your heart bursts as you weep,
And when you lay in bed,
You cry yourself to sleep.

Excellent poem, and I'm sorry if you've been through this. Having moved to 7 different school districts and having to make new friends every time, I know of which you speak. Great poem! 5/5!
