I Used to Swing at Everything

by audrey harris   Jul 25, 2007

I used to swing at everything,
then I swang at nothing at all.
Maybe someday I'll learn
to closely watch the ball.

It took me a season to realize
that not every pitch is great.
Another 2 years to find that
at some things, I should of swang away.

Just like life, sometimes
we trust everything
only to be disappointed
then we don't trust a thing.

Then it takes a while to realize
that not everything's bad or wrong.
And then we learn to trust
the few that we can lean on.

While some will betray you,
and leave you out in the cold,
there will always be somebody
who will help you not to fold.

And it's these people who help us
keep our eye on every throw.
And help pull us through our strike-outs,
and promise to never go.

I swing at everything too. Sometimes I hit, sometimes I don't. That's the way life is I guess. Great poem.
