Our Talent

by MuddinGirl   Jul 26, 2007

When you were young someone gave you
An old guitar to let your talent shine through.
Many hard years it took to learn
The chords and notes to make hearts yearn.
You played with friends and family too
But the one I remember was listening to you.
You would play and sing every song
Night after night until daylight would come.
Then you would go haul the coal away
You'd come home, grab your guitar and play.
You sang with me, Mom, Ricky too
Sang "Just-A-Swingin'" til' it was through.
Our old favorite "Maybe It's You Maybe It's Me"
Just us together was all that needed to be.
I loved hearing you sing every time that you would
You would even sing me to sleep every time that you could.
But those times have come and gone away now
Lord, I wish I had the talent or even the know-how.
Because I have your flat-top, I don't know how to play
But it's something special from back in the day.
When we used to sing and laugh all the time
You playing that flat-top made my loving smile shine.
I can only play keyboard and the piano too,
But I know where I got it I got it from you.
