Pretend

by S R P   Jul 27, 2007

Shattered memories within my gaze
My heart, still wary, my mind, craze.
Though time has passed I still feel
Profound pain that has yet to heal.

Reality in view after years of pretend
Being tossed as if an outdated trend
My line of vision is no longer clear
Years of destruction further my fear.

Distant times encourage my tears
Muted whispers reach to my ears
Demented mind wanders of late
Gathering images I tried to abate.

Attempting to shut the voices out
To undertake a day with no doubt.
Seeking what once I was denied
My dignity, my respect...My pride.
