Waterfall

by Joy   Jul 27, 2007

The gease flocked to their familiar rocks,
And the sun began to set behind the trees.
Bikers and dog-walkers made way to their cars;
We were finally alone to do as we please.

We walked around the stretch of shore,
Pretending feet were miles, and minutes hours.
Settling on a cozy, rock-walled spot,
While praying for no rain showers.

You put your arm around my waist,
And once again I smelled your famliar scent.
My shattered world melted around me,
As if all the terrible things just went.

Wrapped in your varsity jacket,
Made me feel closer to you than ever.
Whispering our dearest desires,
Just wanted to keep me there forever.

The moon rose above the wood,
And you pointed out its beauty to me.
Despite all of the rain that day,
It was crystal clear as could be.

For what seemed like days,
We just stood there admiring the other;
Holding on as if we'd never let go,
It was then I knew there'd never be another.

Finally, I plucked up my courage,
And took a deep breath, ready to reveal all.
I let you know how much you mean to me,
Feeling like I was standing ten feet tall.

My simple "I love you,"
Was met with one in return,
You said, without hesitation, "I love you, too,"
Which made my heart unnaturally burn.

What came next, neither of us could've fathomed,
You leaned in close to my face;
The moonlight reflected in yours,
And seared my eyes, while I was ready to brace.

When two things which have failed to meet,
On as many occasions as ours have done,
Finally are brought together, united in love,
Makes the long, fierce battle, finally won.
