Cornered in the Ultimate

by Alyssa Friday   Jul 28, 2007

I stood, transfixed,
bathed in a silver light
flowing silkily from the three moons above me.
The crystal water lapped a tranquil melody at my bare waist.
But the sky's great talons clawed fear
into my already beating heart.
And yet, I could not move.
My heart beat faster,
the waves turned quicker.
The sky changed suddenly to
a battle-cry,
the air slashed and torn with the ferocity
of the dragon's entrance.
It's fire singed,
burning sky orange.
I watched with mounting terror.
The dazzling green eyes of the giant beast
spotted my figure with almost exact coordinates.
I felt my ribs being bruised
by the intensity of my thrashing heart.
I saw him circling closer, gliding down.
I struggled hard against warring tides,
stuck fast in its violent company.
I could taste his growing hunger underneath rough scales;
he could taste the salty tears upon my tender flesh.
I wept, for there was nothing left to do but weep.
There was no escape from the ocean and dragon.
Together they trapped, and bound me tight.
Forever I would stay frozen,
a shadow in the stormy sea
of a world I'd never know.
