Drunken Nightmare

Drunken Nightmare

Narrow endless hallways.
Echoing screaming voices
Forever searching for a door
Inappropriate drunk choices

Seeking forgiveness somewhere
Only finding more pain
Hungering for liquid relief
Fighting hard to abstain

Use to be young and strong
forming and digging footers
Tan, muscular working in the sun
An eligible young bachelor

Hitting the bar at quitting time
Him and the guys everyday at five
Throwing em back singing songs
Enjoying youth and being alive

Now look at him he looks fifty-five
Alcohol has made him so sick
He tries to make it through a day
Hard to believe he's only thirty-six

People use to ask for him by name
For the job, form, color and swirl
Not a better concrete man around
Now every morning all he does is hurl

Pop open another can
To cover up the shakes
Past ghosts are haunting him
From all his drunk mistakes

Now he sits all alone
Beer cans stacked around
Living off others kindness
His voice his only sound

It is very hard to watch alcohol killing someone that you care for.
