    Cindy,
So true how alcohol destroyes so many lives, and it effects not just the individual but entire family and frinds.A very sad but thoughtful write.

    Take care

Oh dear God the tears won't stop pouring...I have so much to say

Use to be young and strong
    forming and digging footers
Tan, muscular working in the sun
    An eligible young bachelor

^^ If that doesn't describe my dad I don't know what does....he is in the sun CONSTANTLY so tan and crispy helping others....used to be so young and hard working...he still does so much yard work but his age is catching up to him...

Hitting the bar at quitting time
Him and the guys everyday at five
    Throwing em back singing songs
    Enjoying youth and being alive

^^ My mom made my dad give up alcohol because it was ruining their marriage and making him a drunken rage and he said he did but their were nights people said they seen him at a bar drinking with buddies and it killed us to know that....

    Lastly...
    Now he sits all alone
    Beer cans stacked around
    Living off others kindness
    His voice his only sound

^^ My daddy isn't that addicted but I'm so scared that with all the stress in his life he will come down to this...but I keep praying for him!...he drinks Non-alcoholic now but we know when he has had a real one...he flails his arms around and his eyes get all glossy and red.....its sad....I know what you mean by "
It is very hard to watch alcohol killing someone that you care for."...my dad isn't as bad the man you are describing here....but this decribed him to where I cried and thought "WOw...if my mom didnt make him stop he could be so much worse"...even tho he has his days......its hard Cindy....all I do is pray and Pray......
    Nice write!

That was so powerful and very touching.I have not known anyone that has to live for alcohol but I can imagine how it can hurt those close to have to sit and watch someone drink themselfs to death.Your poem has shed light on a subject that even a reader whom like me does not know of someone addicted to alcohol could after reading this understand what it is like.

So sad.....alcohol....a blight on so many lives.....what's even worse....I know this person and it's worse than you can ever describe.....good job putting it to verse Cindy!

    Pop open another can
    To cover up the shakes
    Past ghosts are haunting him
    From all his drunk mistakes

    Now he sits all alone
    Beer cans stacked around
    Living off others kindness
    His voice his only sound

^ and even his voice is severely affected....soooo truely a tragedy

This was an excellent poem. While reading each stanza I was able to picture each scene.
I was able to follow it with no problem at all. I also love your choice of words and I am so glad that it wasn't a repeat of some of the poems I have read like that. I love poetry. I may not be very good at writing it, but I appreciate reading it. I thank you for sharing your work with me and others like me.
