A Short Story

by Verity Han   Jul 30, 2007

"Take heed to me!" the Guardian hollered,
"If you do not, who knows what will happen to thee!"

Too late, he realized, the knight has left.
Oh well, he thinks, it's not my fault.

The knight, armor full, rides to the castle.

"O Mighty One! Show thou fangs of fiery fear! Let me feel thou fire, thou dark soul, and let your wings open on thou dying breath! I am not afraid!"

He waits outside.

The dead trees stir,
The black water ripples,
The moaning wind fills the air with despair.

Then suddenly a massive roar.

The dragons come,
Just like from all great lore.

The knight fights,
He has no thought,
Just to feel the splatter of blood against his skin.

And the dragon opens its fiery jaws of fear...
