The Candle

by Angel Of Broken Hearts   Jul 31, 2007

As I lay here in the dark, my thoughts are scattered to the night,
but I notice a candle gently burning
putting off a very small and dismal light

As I watch the candle I see my life in it's flame,
and I know that we're very different
but yet, we seem the same

In the beginning we were both a roaring fire
full of many things
like strength, passion, and desire

but as time went on we began to tame
and that passionate fire
became a soft burning flame

The flame was strong but went with the flow
and as time crept on
the flame, became a glow

and here we are
both fractions of our former selves
awaiting an end that's not so far

as the sun rises and the night fades we know life begins to slip away,
slip away into an eternal night
no more light from the sun filled day

as the night and candle before me my life is at its end
I know hearts will be broken
but in time, the wounds will mend

and I will be a memory lost in the sands of time
forgotten, alone
as the world goes on in its state of pantomime.

It had a very intresting rhyme scheme but I enjoyed the over all effect it gave and it was full of emotion as all true poetry should be, but I will not allow you candle to go out and you know I'm always here for you
