And Nothing Else Matters

by audrey harris   Aug 1, 2007

I know the title sounds like a Metallica song,
but really, it's all about you
and knowing and hoping that I'll be there;
that I'll follow through.

Because I made a vow to myself
that I would be there to see
you walk across the kindergarten stage,
your first "diploma" you'll receive.

Already, every time I mention this wish,
my mother seems to get mad.
Why should I be incarcerated from
my brother, the son of my dad?

She says that I will never go,
but I know I will prove her wrong.
I'll skip my game and fail band, too,
by not being home to play a song.

So if I'm in trouble, let it be,
just as long as I'm there
to watch you smile, laugh, and especially
realize that your big sister cares.

And I don't care if I receive "chastisement",
scars, bruises, and batters
because all I care about is finally meeting you.
And nothing else matters.
